About Greater Portmore Primary
Greater Portmore Primary School stands as a beacon of educational excellence in the heart of St. Catherine, Jamaica. Since opening our doors on September 5, 1994, we have been dedicated to nurturing young minds and fostering a love of learning that extends far beyond the classroom. What began as a humble institution with 219 students and eight devoted teachers has flourished into one of the most respected primary schools in the region.
Our commitment to our motto, "Strive for Excellence," is evident in every aspect of school life. Our students consistently achieve remarkable success, earning government scholarships and placing our school among the top three primary institutions in St. Catherine. This academic excellence is complemented by our vibrant extracurricular programs, where students shine in athletics, performing arts, and community service initiatives.
At Greater Portmore Primary, we believe in developing the whole child. Our award-winning clubs and societies, from our championship-winning Red Cross team to our nationally recognized Bible Quiz team, provide students with opportunities to discover their passions and develop leadership skills. Our multiple-award-winning drum corps, guided by talented musical directors, exemplifies the creative spirit that permeates our school community.
With modern facilities including an upgraded computer lab, multipurpose court, and innovative mathematics garden, we continue to evolve and adapt to meet the needs of 21st-century learners. Our dedicated teachers, supportive parents, and committed community members work together to ensure that every child at Greater Portmore Primary has the tools and encouragement needed to reach their full potential.
